**Job Description:**

- Evaluate, examine, analyze, diagnose, and treat consumers.
- Prescribe medication and perform in-depth psychotherapy and counseling (e.g., psychoanalysis, behavior modification).
- Monitor and coordinate professional and paraprofessional medical, nursing, and direct care staff in areas related to psychiatric care.
- Review consumer records for accuracy and completeness; recommend improvements in hospital staffing and organization.
- Provide psychological services to patients, residents, consumers, students, and/or inmates within the scope of practice.
- Offer advice and consultation on psychological matters (e.g., conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological evaluations/assessments, administer, score, and interpret psychological tests, review pre-admission or pre-treatment data, conduct interviews, and write evaluation reports and treatment plans).
- Evaluate treatment plans developed and quality of service rendered by others; coordinate psychological services and programs.
- Assist with program development and conduct research on psychological assessment and treatment.
- Conduct individual and group counseling and psychotherapy (e.g., counsel on substance abuse, trauma, self-injury, suicidal ideation, grief and loss, impulse control, family issues, health issues, interpersonal issues, and/or criminal behavior).
- Follow up on treatment and write progress reports; conduct psychological evaluations and/or court order forensic evaluations.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments; consult with psychiatrists and conduct assessments; work with clients to establish reasons for living; teach coping strategies.
- Diffuse and de-escalate issues and role model positive behaviors.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of inmates to identify, prevent, and/or contain significant lethality risks for imminent harm to self or others.
- Provide psychological services to offenders under adult parole authority oversight; coordinate services between institution mental health services and local community mental health service providers.
- Complete re-entry accountability plans and conduct home visits with adult parole authority field officers.
- Provide specialized sex offender therapies such as aggression control, coping with neurological disorders (e.g., ADHD), and victim empathy.
- Provide psychological treatment to inmates in the form of psycho-educational classes (e.g., skill acquisition) and time-limited group psychotherapy (e.g., older adult male issues).
- Participate in treatment team functions and provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to treatment team members.
- Recommend policies and procedures for patient assessment, evaluation, and treatment.
- Evaluate defendant/patient for mental status, competence to stand trial, and/or sanity at the time of offense.
- Write comprehensive forensic reports and recommendations for courts; respond to subpoenas and appear in court as an expert witness on forensic/psychological matters.
- Testify in court regarding placement, guardianship, risk assessment, and/or competency to stand trial.
- Write discharge summaries and/or behavioral recommendations when transitioning individuals out of the institution.
- Prepare statistical reports and graphs summarizing behavioral progress.
