**Job Specialty:** Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Stepdown
**Job Duration:** 13 weeks
**Shift:** 12-hour Days, Every Other Weekend, First to Float
**Guaranteed Hours:** 36 hours per week
**Experience:** Minimum 2 years
**License:** Required
**Certifications:** BLS, ACLS, COVID Vaccine, NIHSS
**Must-Have:**
- Experience in ICU stepdown or PCU unit
- Skills with arterial and CVP pressure lines
- Ability to titrate pressors, precedex, and drips such as dopamine, dobutamine, levophed
- Experience with trach and stable vented patients
**Job Description:**
- Work in a PCU stepdown unit with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Monitor ICU patients who do not meet the telemetry level of care
- Handle stepdown patients from ICU, TBI/trauma patients, major surgery cases, CEA, and sepsis
- Titrate drips and manage high-risk medications
- Participate in self-scheduling primarily, with schedules established 2-3 weeks in advance initially and projected out 9 weeks in advance
- Meet weekend requirements of 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, alternating between Saturday/Sunday during days and Friday/Saturday during nights
- Engage in hospital's holiday staff rotation
- Be the first to float to other units such as Telemetry or MedSurg as required
- Adhere to the navy blue scrub color/dress code
- Complete a unit-specific orientation
- Be self-motivated, team-oriented, and invested in the mission and values of the unit
- Work in a traveler-friendly, close-knit team with a focus on effective teamwork and patient experience
- Utilize the Cerner charting system
This is a very busy unit with rapid patient turnover. Applicants should know and understand HCAHPS and core measures, and be prepared for occasional shift cancellations per contract terms.
