**Job Description:**

- Evaluate, examine, analyze, diagnose, and treat patients.
- Prescribe medication and perform in-depth psychotherapy and counseling, such as psychoanalysis and behavior modification.
- Monitor and coordinate professional and paraprofessional medical, nursing, and direct care staff in areas related to psychiatric care.
- Review patient records for accuracy and completeness and recommend improvements in staffing and organization.
- Provide psychological services, conduct evaluations/assessments, administer and interpret psychological tests, review pre-admission or pre-treatment data, conduct interviews, and write evaluation reports and treatment plans.
- Evaluate treatment plans developed by others and coordinate psychological services and programs.
- Conduct individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, addressing areas such as substance abuse, trauma, self-injury, suicidal ideation, grief and loss, impulse control, family issues, health issues, interpersonal issues, and criminal behavior.
- Follow up on treatment and write progress reports.
- Conduct psychological evaluations and court-ordered forensic evaluations, such as reviewing patients' current charts, past records, prosecution files, and court entries.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and participate in involuntary medication hearings; evaluate potential for suicide, consult with psychiatrists, and conduct assessments.
- Work with clients to establish reasons for living and teach coping strategies.
- Defuse and de-escalate issues and model positive behaviors.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of patients to identify, prevent, or contain any significant lethality risks.
- Provide psychological services to individuals under parole authority oversight and coordinate services between institutional mental health services and local community mental health providers.
- Complete re-entry accountability plans and conduct home visits with field officers.
- Provide specialized therapies such as aggression control and coping with neurological disorders, and psychological treatment in the form of psycho-educational classes and time-limited group psychotherapy.
- Participate in treatment team functions and provide technical assistance and guidance to team members.
- Recommend policies and procedures for patient assessment, evaluation, and treatment.
- Evaluate patients for mental status and competence to stand trial, write comprehensive forensic reports, and provide recommendations for courts.
- Respond to subpoenas and appear in court as an expert witness.
- Testify in court regarding placement, guardianship, risk assessment, and competency to stand trial.
- Write discharge summaries and/or behavioral recommendations for transitioning individuals out of the institution.
- Prepare statistical reports and graphs summarizing behavioral progress.
