**Certifications:** Current national certification as a Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician, Certified Registered Central Service Technician, or Surgical Instrument Processor

**Must-Have:**
- Mechanical aptitude
- Ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate, and reassemble
- Effective organizational, communication, and human relation skills

**Job Description:**

- Responsible for the care and handling of all general and specialty instruments, including cleaning, decontamination, instrument identification, assembly, packaging, distribution, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation.

- Decontaminate, assemble, and package all instruments following established protocols. Perform necessary repairs, reassemble, and store specialized surgical instruments.

- Prepare order requests as necessary for replacement parts for instruments and additional equipment, as needed or upon request of physicians.

- Maintain a clean and safe environment by adhering to Standard Precautions and Infection Control practices. Staff will don proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow protocols for the decontamination process referencing Instructions for Use (IFU) supplied by the manufacturers.

- Identify instruments for all specialties and ensure proper function. Follow protocol for repair or replacement of instruments that are not functioning properly.

- Assemble and package all instrumentation and sets according to department protocol.

- Utilize equipment according to manufacturer recommendations and hospital policy. Operate steam autoclaves, ETO, and Gas Plasma sterilizers.

- Maintain appropriate logs and records relating to the sterilization process, including Ethylene Oxide Aeration Records, Sterilizer Load Records, and Biological Monitoring Records.

- Respond to problem calls from the Operating Room and perform preliminary investigation.

- Determine priority level of instrumentation and equipment requests and other hospital needs.

- Direct services in a competent and professional manner while ensuring Operating Room priorities are completed in a timely manner.

- Perform all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

- Provide all customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors each and every day.
