**Description:**
The Sterile Processing Technician is a key role responsible for ensuring that equipment consistently meets the highest quality and safety standards. This position involves receiving and processing incoming supplies and equipment, including cleaning and sterilizing duties. The technician handles, processes, and stores medical instruments and is responsible for monitoring the sterilizer equipment to ensure adherence to performance specifications, including inspection and documentation.

**Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:**
- Collect, receive, clean, disinfect, and decontaminate instruments, supplies, and equipment according to hospital policies and procedures, industry recommendations, guidelines, and requirements.
- Prioritize workload according to the needs of the operating room and other hospital units.
- Collect dirty instruments and equipment from departments throughout the hospital and scan bar codes for processing.
- Disassemble and inspect instruments, selecting appropriate cleaning tools and detergents to manually decontaminate instruments and equipment.
- Operate washer-decontaminator, cart washer, and ultrasonic cleaner.
- Inspect surgical instruments and medical equipment for cleanliness and proper working order, assemble and wrap instruments and equipment.
- Sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies using the appropriate mode of sterilization and handle and store items appropriately.
- Monitor sterilizers and equipment in accordance with quality assurance standards and performance improvement standards.
- Perform daily biological and diagnostic tests and document them accurately and legibly.
- Maintain established departmental policies and procedures and uphold safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Serve as an expert resource to the department and participate in orienting and training new staff.
- Distribute supplies and equipment to hospital units in a timely fashion, responding to urgent needs.

This position requires detailed attention, adherence to protocols, and effective communication with staff and departments for the efficient management of sterile processing activities.
