Job Summary and Qualifications

The Adult Respiratory Team Leader functions independently within their scope of practice. Acts as an immediate supervisor to adult respiratory therapists on both shifts, including the charge therapists. Supervises departmental clinical activities, including performance improvement, and performs an administrative role in department functions. Works closely with the manager/director regarding staffing, operations and departmental issues. Subjected to irregular hours and pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Required to work rotating weekends and holidays. Requires rational judgment and clinical thinking. Creates an environment and culture that enables Respiratory Care Services to fulfill the mission of the facility and meet or exceed its goals.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintains compliance with regulatory standards from federal, state and other governing bodies such as JCAHO.
  • Serves as an educational resource for hospital staff and physicians regarding current practices in respiratory care.
  • Oversees care of patients, providing support and expertise to staff.
  • Responsible for workflow of department by ensuring proper staff levels.
  • Creates staffing schedules and ensures that staff members adhere to schedule requirements.
  • Demonstrates high ethical standards in customer service through all interactions with the patients, families, coworkers, staff, other hospital departments, physicians, and community
  • Ensures that department supplies and equipment are maintained appropriately.
  • Proposes new policies and procedures that will make processes more efficient and effective for patients.
  • Assists director/manager with interviewing and recommending new hires.
  • Communicates departmental needs, problems and other necessary information in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform competency validation for Adult RT staff.
  • Facilitates and supports interdepartmental performance improvement/customer satisfaction activities.
  • Assists with holding staff accountable and conflict resolution. Promotes a healthy work environment.

What qualifications you will need:
  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt, or ACLS Instructor must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt, or PALS Instructor must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
