Job Summary

Are you a person who thrives in the spotlight, loves rallying a crowd, and can turn any moment into an unforgettable experience? As Camp Program Director, you will be the driving force behind the camp's energy, leading activities, encouraging our campers, and ensuring that staff and campers stay engaged, motivated, and having an amazing summer

This role is perfect for a natural leader, entertainer, and problem-solver who can command a room (or campfire), organize daily activities, and keep the energy high from sunrise to sunset. You will oversee counselors, activity leaders, and campers while making sure that every day at camp is packed with adventure, laughter, and meaningful experiences.

If you love leading chants, hosting camp-wide events, and making sure no moment is boring, then this is the role for you

This position reports to the Associate Camp Director and works closely with the leadership team to create a fun, safe, and memorable summer experience for everyone.

Responsibilities

Master of Activities & Events

  • Be the face and voice of camp – from morning announcements to campfire storytelling, you'll keep the energy up and the campers engaged
  • Lead and organize epic camp programs – design and execute daily activities, ensuring they are fun, safe, and inclusive.
  • Energize and motivate campers & staff – whether it's leading chants, hosting talent shows, or kicking off team competitions, you're the go-to motivator
  • Adapt on the fly – if the weather changes or a schedule need adjusting, you'll be the quick thinker who keeps everything running smoothly

Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor counselors and activity leaders, making sure they are confident and prepared to run their programs.
  • Assist in staff training, ensuring they bring their best energy and leadership to camp.
  • Provide real-time feedback and encouragement to staff, helping them create an environment where campers thrive.
  • Step in to handle conflicts or challenges with positivity and restorative practices.

Camp Operations

  • Coordinate smooth transitions between activities and keep the camp schedule running seamlessly.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records, camper behavior reports, and incident documentation.
  • Act as a counselor or activity counselor when needed
  • Assist in organizing camp-wide events, evening programs, and special activities

Qualifications

  • A natural performer and leader – you love being in front of a crowd and know how to get people excited.
  • High School Diploma required; some college experience preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience in youth program coordination, camp leadership, or activity planning.
  • Experience supervising, evaluating, and motivating staff and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing schedules and camper needs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to foster a positive camp culture and uphold camp policies and procedures.
  • Preferred: 24+ weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in a camp setting.

Requirements

  • Ability to pass a background check, physical exam and be up to date on all required immunizations.
  • Summer Camp employees are not required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, however, BCNY strongly encourages all employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and obtain a booster shot.
