Train Depot Board

The members of the City of Kyle's Train Depot Board of Directors are charged with advising the Kyle City Council and City staff on the maintenance needs and condition of the depot building. Members of the Board should have some knowledge of the history of Kyle and an interest in historic preservation, as well as a keen interest in preserving this special piece of Kyle's history for generations to come. Members are strongly encouraged to be active and volunteer at events held at the Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
It will be the goal and responsibility of the Commission to:
- The train depot board shall recommend to the city council rules, policies and procedures related to the operations and programs associated to the train depot and surrounding grounds, such rules, policies and procedures shall become in effect upon adoption of the city council as provided by law.
- The train depot board shall carry out and perform such functions and duties as the city council may assign it.
- The train depot board shall act as a public forum for citizens to address concerns with the train depot.
- The train depot board shall provide advisory oversight to the train depot and surrounding grounds.
- The train depot board may review request for permits and make a recommendation relative to said requests for use and/or reservations of the train depot and surrounding grounds.

The Train Depot Board consists of seven members serving without pay who are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. Members of the board are required to be residents of either Kyle or reside within the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of the city. The term of office is two years or until a successor is appointed. Members are eligible for reappointment at any time following the termination of their two-year term. The Board meets at least once each month at the Kyle Railroad Depot and Heritage Center. Board members will be expected to comment to volunteering at the Kyle Railroad and Heritage Center for a period of time each month.
BOARD MEMBER QUALIFICATIONS:
An individual shall not be eligible for appointment to a board or commission unless the individual meets the following qualifications on the day prior to the date of appointment: (1) be at least 18 years of age; (2) be a citizen of the United States; (3) have been a resident of the State of Texas for at least 6 consecutive months; (4) and not be delinquent on any indebtedness to the city. An appointee may not be a city employee. Specific residency requirements to serve on each board and commission must be contained in the board or commission bylaws and shall be approved by the city council. If any appointee ceases to possess any of these qualifications, such position to which the appointee was appointed shall, upon such fact being determined by the council, immediately become vacant.
ATTENDANCE:
If a member of a board is absent for three regular consecutive meetings, the regular member office is considered vacant unless the member is sick or has first obtained a leave of absence from the majority of the board members present at a regular meeting. The board in question shall be the judge of whether the member has had three such consecutive unexcused absences.
