The Department of OBGYN has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Ultrasound Technologist to work in Miami, FL. The Senior Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate, and record critical functional, pathological, and anatomical data. Moreover, this employee schedules and coordinates tests, records test results and prepares and maintains operational logs. The incumbent also calibrates and maintains equipment and orders supplies.

  • Performs routine and specialty sonographic procedures in cases involving all levels of difficulty.
  • Operates complex and highly technical equipment including 2-D, 3-D, color, power and spectral doppler modalities for various types of ultrasound examinations.
  • Ensures the diagnostic quality of all scans through extensive knowledge of ultrasound techniques, disease processes, and technical pitfalls.
  • Makes preliminary interpretations of the ultrasound examination to bring areas of suspected pathology to the attention of attending physician or fellow.
  • Checks patient's chart to confirm ordered procedures, and acquires pertinent clinical information from the patient, hospital chart, electronic medical record system or other available sources.
  • Assists physicians in the performance of invasive and special procedures.
  • Greets patients appropriately, escorts patients to exam room, reassures patients, explains procedures prior to starting them, and answers questions. Adjusts explanations, communication style, and procedures according to the patients' needs. Explains to patients and nurses correct preparations for procedures to be performed.
  • Cleans and maintains ultrasound equipment, assures proper operation of instruments, reports equipment malfunction to appropriate staff, and performs quality assurance tests.
  • Performs portable bedside examinations.
  • Trains co-workers, ultrasound students, residents, fellows, and visiting personnel.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities to ensure continuous improvement of services provided.
  • Follows safety and infection control standards.
  • Completes all required paperwork, and performs computer functions, such as entering reports, recording completed procedures, logging studies, and ordering procedures.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Certification in relevant specialty or field
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University's core values.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
  • Position may require some travel to multiple OBGYN offices.
  • The sonographer performs scans at multiple sites for obstetric, gynecologic and infertility patients.
  • The individual in this position is responsible for performing sonographic exams and assisting in ultrasound-guided office procedures via transabdominal and transvaginal instrumentation.
  • The ultrasound technologist analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates sonographer's impression via written reports to the appropriate physician.
  • Proficient in all Level 2 scans (Anatomy scans/EFWs/BPP/TVS, NT and Amniocentesis). Fetal Echo a plus but will train.
