Job Description:

- Administer nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, or chiropractor. This includes tasks such as oxygen administration, applying sterile dressings, catheter insertion, gastrostomy tube reinsertion, wound irrigation, and providing enemas and douches.
- Collect specimens, perform dialysis treatments, operate hemodialysis equipment, and monitor patients during procedures.
- Assist physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests.
- Respond to emergencies by administering first aid, performing CPR, and restraining patients if necessary.
- Administer medications, including controlled drugs (narcotics and minor tranquilizers) and non-controlled medication in various forms, and provide medication instructions to patients.
- Maintain accountability records, including patient charts, medication preparation, and stock management of medication and medical equipment and supplies.
- Observe, document, and report patient conditions, including medication reactions, treatment responses, behavior, and progress, and prepare related reports and records.
- Provide general nursing care, assist with personal grooming and hygiene, administer topical ointments, and reposition patients.
- Respond to patient alarms, make medical appointments for patients, and escort patients, assisting with recreational and group activities as stated in treatment plans.
- Provide work direction, orientation, and training to lower-level direct care staff in providing general unskilled nursing care to patients.
- Participate in meetings including staff conferences, committees, interdisciplinary team meetings, in-service training programs, and nursing meetings.
- Order medication and medical supplies, clean the nurse's station and medication room/cart, and perform clerical tasks like answering phones and filing.
