CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: FOOD SERVICES WORKER

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to assist with various food services functions at the Jackson County Senior Center to include table preparation and clean up, food service, and related activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Cleans tables before and after meals served.

Stocks table condiments and dining items including salt, pepper, creamers, napkins, cups and sugar; cleans, fills and replace condiment containers on tables prior to each meal; picks up shakers and containers after meals.

Assist with cooking meals, wrapping food items, bread and desserts for Home Delivery Meals and Congregate Meals.

Wraps silverware and counts out plates for dining room.

Assists staff with various cleaning activities; cleans the interior and exterior of refrigerators as needed; washes silverware; polishes table tops and coolers; washes dishes, pots, pans and other food preparation and service tools; cleans flour, meal and condiment trolley and exterior of freezers.

Keeps pantry clean and organized and insures that all food items within the pantry are properly sealed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Basic literacy and mathematical skills used in following instructions; communicating with co-workers and the general public; and, performing basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).

Serve-Safe Certificate or ability to obtain certificate within the first six (6) months of hire date.

PERFORMANCE APTITUDES

Data Utilization: Requires the ability to compile, assemble, copy, record and/or transcribe data according to a prescribed schema or plan. Includes judging whether readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics are similar to or divergent from prescribed standards, procedures or routines.

Human Interaction: Requires the ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within well established policies, procedures and standards.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Tasks may require exposure to such environmental conditions as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, or pathogenic substances.
