We're currently searching for a Senior Specialist, Generators to join our team in Phoenix.

The Senior Specialist, Generators position provides technical expertise and completes Owner's Engineer (OE) responsibilities for generators, excitation systems, high voltage, and associated equipment. The scope of responsibility for this role starts at potential asset acquisitions and carries through to the reliability and maintenance of generators and related assets fleet wide. This role is responsible to ensure adherence to Capital Power and regulatory standards, and due diligence in the sustainability, maintainability, design, construction, and commissioning phases of various works.

You will contribute to our team by:

* Providing subject matter expertise on the design, construction, maintenance, and reliability of Capital Power's generator fleet and associated equipment (i.e.: excitation systems, protective relaying, etc.).


* Mitigating generator failures by developing a generating unit reliability program that emphasizes proactive maintenance techniques.


* Developing and maintaining generator asset health dashboard/scorecard.


* Developing, implementing and reviewing processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensuring mitigation of risks.


* Specifying, facilitating, and reviewing NERC testing and equipment inspections and reports.


* Providing generator testing and turnaround recommendations to the Plant Managers.


* Analyzing condition monitoring data and make improvement recommendations as required.


* Developing and reviewing equipment specifications, operational issue requests, assessments, repair plans, maintenance, and root cause analysis.


* Providing on-site technical support for the outages, projects, equipment upgrades, component repairs either at the plant, or the various vendor repair facilities.


* Leading due diligence reviews of generator, high voltage and associated assets during acquisition and major project processes.


* Scoping and providing recommendations on generator equipment supply and design requirements.


* Managing, executing, and communicating relevant industry best practices including technical service bulletins, new technologies, and new maintenance techniques.


* Developing generating unit long term and capital planning upgrade strategy.


* Proactively providing recommendations to Plant Managers and company Executives to address issues or threat to unit performance and proactively improve reliability of the asset.


* Providing leadership, mentoring and guidance to co-op students, engineers-in-training (EITs), and internal engineers.


* Collaborating cooperatively with other members of the engineering department and plant operations to meet business unit and corporate objectives.



What you will bring to the role:

Education:

* Completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.


* Preference for Registered Professional Engineer PE in Arizona (or another state).


* Education equivalency may be considered.



Experience & Technical Skills:

* 15+ years as an Electrical Engineer with Power Generation experience.


* Comprehensive Electrical Engineering experience with a background in:
* Generators, excitation systems, protective relaying, high voltage, and associated equipment


* Expert understanding of electrical engineering principles


* Maintenance, reliability, design, construction, and commissioning experience


* Project and contract management experience


* Preference for generator OEM experience




* Strong communication skills (written; verbal).


* Familiarity with CMMS, electronic drawing management systems, and SharePoint.



Working Conditions:

* Hybrid downtown Phoenix office position, with 20% travel for project and plant maintenance support across North America.



Additional Details:

The pay range for this position is $147,600 to $170,560. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications and prior relevant experience. This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.

This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.

As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required.
