College of Veterinary Medicine
The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Maintenance and Shipping Assistant, located within Hospital Operations. This position exists to assist Maintenance Specialists, assist with small, non-skilled task and work orders, change HVAC air filters, assist with trash, recycling, and general clean-up, and fills in for Shipping and Receiving when needed.
Typical Responsibilities:
* Assists Maintenance Specialist with projects and work orders while learning trades such as plumbing, HVAC and electrical. Works on work orders such as hanging pictures, changing bulbs, moving furniture, mowing, and other non-skilled work. Helps clean and organize maintenance shop and air handlers.
* Changes HVAC filters on a regularly scheduled basis as directed by the Foreman and Facilities Director. Maintains accurate log of dates and types of filters changed.
* Assists with trash and recycling. Helps maintain appearance of UTCVM such as picking up trash, blowing leaves, and general clean-up around the interior and exterior of the building.
* Fills in as needed in Shipping and Receiving. This includes receiving, sorting, documenting, and delivering packages, both perishable and non-perishable, assisting Central Supply staff as needed, and delivering in-house mail.
Minimum Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED and 1 year of general work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Vocational or technical training in a maintenance or facilities-related field.
The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work is required of this position.
