BASSE seeks a School Nurse to provide specialized nursing to support the well-being and academic success of students. The School Nurse will also provide preventive and screening services, health education, and assistance with decision-making about health and immunizations for the Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence. The school nurse will provide preventive health services to facilitate students' optimal physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development.

The Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence (BASSE) is a free public charter school that will grow to serve grades 6 through 12 in Sussex County, Delaware. Opening in the fall of 2024 with grades 6, 7, and 8, BASSE aims to provide a personalized academic experience focusing on service-learning and leadership opportunities for our students and staff. Inspired by our school's namesake, Bryan Stevenson, a prolific social justice activist and lawyer from Milton, Delaware, the BASSE community has dedicated its mission to proximity. We will create pathways for our students, families, and communities by getting close to those facing challenges and partnering with them to create solutions.

WHO YOU ARE
BASSE seeks a School Nurse to join our inaugural staff to help us prepare the next generation of learners to be the next generation of leaders. BASSE is the right fit for your career in education if:

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Head of School, the School Nurse will:
- Provide healthcare to students and staff
- Create complete sub plans that allow any person to step in at anytime
- Perform health screening services such as vision and hearing
- Coordinate referrals to private healthcare providers
- Maintain clinical records
- Assist teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education
- Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, and community healthcare providers to ensure a healthy school environment
- Monitor immunizations, managing communicable diseases, and assessing the school environment to prevent injury and ensure safety
- Oversee medication administration, healthcare procedures, and develop healthcare plans
- Provide health advice to school educational teams, such as Special Education and the IEP Team and/or 504 Plan Team
- Develops and implements student health plans
- Interprets the health status of students to parents and school personnel
- Initiates referral to parents, school personnel or community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow through processes
- Provides ongoing health counseling with students, parents, school personnel or health agencies
- Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
- Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases
- Provides health education and anticipatory guidance
- Provides direct health education, and health counseling to assist students and families in making decisions on health and lifestyles that affect their physical, emotional, and mental health
- Other duties as assigned
This is a 40-hours per week, 10-month role. A criminal background check and TB test is required.
Essential Qualifications Skills
Education:
- Current Registered Nurse license for State of Delaware; must maintain a valid license.
- B.S.N. required - higher preferred
- CPR / AED Certification active within 6 months
Experience
- 3-5 years of acute health care and medical documentation experience
- Prior School Nurse experience preferred
- Prior Pediatric Care experience preferred
- Knowledge of ESchool preferred
