Our research group in the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in psychology or social work with prior experience in psychosocial intervention development in mental health and cognitive disorders. Experience working with geriatric populations, clinical trials and a license to provide clinical care, counseling or psychotherapy, is ideal. Inequities in health service access lead to disparities in depression and cognitive outcomes. Our group seeks to address these inequities. We use mixed methods to assess need, understand experience of illness, and develop and test interventions for delivery by lay workers such as peer coaches to underserved older adults in community settings. Our approach is public health focused, collaborative and community-engaged.

Job description

Our research group is in the Department of Psychiatry, located on the campus of the Massachusetts General Hospital. We work closely with the Center for Health Outcomes and Interdisciplinary Research that advances clinical practice and research by developing and testing cutting-edge mind-body and lifestyle interventions. Ongoing studies focus on the development of hospital-based and community-based interventions for pain, depression, prevention of Alzheimer's Dementia. Approach to community-based intervention includes the use of lay workers to address issues of sustainability and health disparities in health outcomes for minoritized populations.

The position will include, but not be limited, to the following activities:

* Develop and implement research protocols
* Create and submit IRB applications
* Oversee and aid in moving participants through studies: recruiting, scheduling, and conducting assessments
* Manage data using RedCap and other software
* Manage and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
* Assist in academic writing, including: literature reviews, manuscript writing, protocol development, standard operating manuals and grant writing
* Oversee and manage Research Coordinators and Research Assistants
* Oversee, assist in training and supervision of peer coaches
* Liaise and conduct outreach in community settings to build partnerships for implementation of protocols
* Community-based outpatient environment- fast paced, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
* Work is generally sedentary in nature; however, some standing, stooping, and bending are required.
* Work requires concentration and constant attention to accuracy and detail for extended periods of time.
* Work requires cross-training and coverage of colleagues

The position requires:

* Experience in community-based research and intervention development
* Experience with research publications
* Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
* Experience in research with older adults
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both research staff and participants
* Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills
* Knowledge of mental illness, and familiarity with fields such as behavior change, psychotherapy, psychosocial interventions
* Familiarity with data management and data management software
* Experience preparing manuscripts for publication, experience with review and summarization of relevant literature for manuscript background and grant preparation. Preparation of study findings and presentation at professional meetings will also be strongly encouraged.

Requirements
