Northwest Youth Corps - Resource Management

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park is recruiting for two Resource Management Individual Placements beginning in early June 2024, through August 2024. With seven sites on both sides of the Columbia River in Washington and Oregon, the park includes wetlands, upland forests, coastal dunes, and prairies. While working with the park's Resource Management Division, the members will primarily be assisting with invasive species control and a variety of monitoring projects. Member Duties : For invasive plant control (70%), duties include conducting surveys of forest and wetlands for invasive plants, mechanical removal using shovels and string trimmers, and application of herbicide when appropriate. Members will receive training in integrated pest management principles, safe herbicide application and plant identification skills from staff. For park monitoring projects (20%), duties may include surveying forest monitoring plots, conducting wetland vegetation surveys, performing driving surveys for elk, and entering data into a database. The members will spend approximately (10%) of their time receiving formal training in general safety, policies, and job opportunities with the National Park Service. The AmeriCorps term will conclude with a report about the work completed during the summer.
