Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION
The Behavioral Health Assessment Counselor (BHAC) provides crisis evaluation and referral of appropriate clinical services for clients in the community experiencing a behavioral health crisis or other behavioral health needs. The BHAC works collaboratively with physicians/providers to recommend the level of care to appropriately meet the client's needs and makes referrals to specific community-based providers and, when appropriate, coordinates inpatient admissions. The BHAC works cooperatively with physicians, therapists, nursing homes, mental health agencies, addiction counselors and insurance providers to make disposition.
The BHAC is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of their professional standards and the rules and regulations established by the State licensure board in their specialty.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Education: Master's Degree from an accredited school in social work, psychology, counseling or other related field required.
Experience: A minimum of two years of behavioral health experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:
-Preferred knowledge of Crisis Intervention and Crisis Stabilization models and theories.
-Ability to work as part of a clinical treatment team is essential, as is the ability to cooperatively with emergency services and other agency staff and to appropriately interact with community referrals.
-Demonstrated understanding of issues around cultural competence and finds value in a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Licensed, or eligible of pursuing the highest level of licensure appropriate to degree, as applicable. This will include: LMSW, LCSW, LPC, SLPE, and LMFT. CPR required
