Scientist

The scientist will initiate, define and lead large product development projects to enhance growth & commercial success of the business. The scientist will be the global focal point for technical support queries related to customer or internal CI activities. They will lead and participate in cross-functional teams, issue advice and/or customer & manufacturing support. They will act as an expert in the field of paints & coatings.

In your future role as Scientist you will

* Initiate, define and lead product development or improvement projects.
* Setup, plan & execute scientific experimental work
* Act as a spider in the web between customers, sales, production & technology, the paint lab & other RD&I groups
* Report results and project docs according to Stage Gate
* Lead or participate in cross-functional teams in projects or technical support, issue advice and manufacturing support
* Act as expert w/regards to chemistry & properties of our products in relation to the paint application
* Formulate and present possible solution directions and provide advice
* Supervise project leaders, lab engineers, diploma workers and internship students
* Identify and independently coordinate technical support work for customers
* Respond to customer requests for technical advice
* Communicate findings directly with customers or sales teams
* Monitor literature and patents in the fields of Paints & Coatings and actively looks for patent possibilities
* Give presentations externally and internally; be known externally as an expert
* Keep up with internal and external (scientific) developments and trends in own field of expertise
* Ensure transfer and retention of knowledge
* Initiate, define and lead new research, development or improvement projects, trends & market needs/opportunities
* Independently organize, expand, develop and implement technical training
* Be technical representative for key accounts, trade shows, congresses to identify future needs.
* Attend trade shows to prospect / network, strengthen customer and value chain relationships, and to understand industry trends and market needs.

We believe you bring

* PhD or M.Sc. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (or similar discipline) with several years of experience.
* A deeper knowledge and/or experience within paint and coatings, surface chemistry, polymer chemistry or rheology is preferred
* Proactive attitude, independent and result driven
* Strong customer focus
* Able to manage large development projects and the capability to lead multidisciplinary and international teams
* Good sense for strategic and commercial business aspects.
* Hands on and willing to work in the lab
* Team player with communication and interpersonal skills
* Drive for sustainable solutions
* Fluent in English, both written and spoken, knowledge on additional languages is preferred
* Prepared to travel globally
