White Plains Hospital Job Description Title:Neuro-Hospitalist Job Code: 200023 Department/Location: EMS Physician Neurology FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Section Chief of Neurology Position Summary As part of the inpatient neurology team, the Neuro Hospitalist will collaborate closely with the Neurosurgical, Neurologic and Neuroendovascular services as well as Critical Care/Neuro Critical Care teams to manage and care for patients with neurologic diseases.This includes but is not limited to rounding on patients, writing orders, reviewing test results, and responding to code grey alerts and consult requests. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Coordinates the care (evaluation, treatment, admission, and discharge) of patients who are admitted with neurologic illness. Thoroughly, and with adequate frequency, communicates with patient, appropriate family members, specialty consulting physicians, and hospital staff regarding the status of the admitted patient. Provides education for staff and patients / family with whom the Neuro Hospitalist interacts. Oversees activities of Advanced Practice Providers (NPs PAs) as needed. Institutes immediate and appropriate intervention in life or disability-threatening emergencies. Documents evaluation of and treatment given to all patients. Provides each patient with discharge instructions, both oral and written. Gives referring physician verbal and written report upon discharge of patient. Works assigned shifts and when on-shift does not leave the Hospital Campus. Attends all relevant professional meetings scheduled for the Department. Participates in chart review and organized activities to reduce length of stay and improve quality outcomes. Participates in institutional initiatives such as disaster planning and response, environment of care /safety, risk management, etc. Performs all other related duties as assigned. Education Experience Requirements Medical Degree (MD or DO) with Fellowship in Neurology or other relevant specialty Valid NYS Medical License Valid BLS Certification Compliance with CME Requirements (Hospital, Regional, State, and Federal) Board Certified in Neurology or other relevant specialty Experience managing patients with acute and unstable neurologic injury Core Competencies Teamwork Adaptability Acts as a Professional Role Model Assessment Skills Excellent Communication Skills (both verbal and written) Attention to Detail Planning Organizing Sound Problem-Solving, Judgment and Decision-Making Skills Stress Tolerance Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements Work Environment May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.Must be able to move about the hospital, or remain stationary for extended periods of time Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally, have legible handwriting Must have sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform all the procedures, techniques and skills listed in the delineation of privileges.
