Position Overview

The Department of Natural Resources and Earth Sciences at Marshall University seeks a motivated and innovative Graduate Research Assistant to support a grant-funded project focused on developing microcredentials in agriculture and natural resource sciences. This role is essential for enhancing educational initiatives and fostering collaboration among faculty, students, and industry stakeholders to promote sustainable practices and effective learning strategies. The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to conduct needs assessments, develop educational programming, and engage in recruitment activities to enhance departmental outreach while promoting diversity and inclusion in agricultural and natural resource education.

Key Responsibilities

* Needs Assessments: Collaborate with faculty and stakeholders to design, implement, and analyze needs assessments related to workforce skillsets in agriculture and natural resources.
* Microcredential Development: Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of microcredential courses and curricula, ensuring alignment with industry needs and educational best practices.
* Recruitment Activities: Actively participate in graduate and undergraduate recruitment initiatives, promoting the department's programs and fostering an inclusive environment that attracts a diverse student body.
* Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze data from needs assessments and course evaluations and contribute to the preparation of reports and publications to disseminate project outcomes.
* Student Mentorship: Foster a supportive mentor/mentee relationship with Dr. Autumn Starcher-Patton and guide undergraduate students working on the project. Provide feedback, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance their research skills and career readiness.
* Curriculum Collaboration: Work with faculty to develop and assess curriculum materials that integrate best practices in agriculture and natural resources education.
* Community Outreach: Engage in outreach activities to promote the microcredential programs and increase awareness of sustainable agricultural practices.
* Professional Networking: Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and networking events to foster relationships with industry professionals and enhance program visibility.
* Collaboration: Work with faculty, students, and community partners to identify opportunities for innovation in curriculum and program development, promoting collaboration across disciplines. Participate in weekly research meetings.
* Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development opportunities, including collaboration with stakeholders on microcredential development, presenting research at academic conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

* Stakeholder Collaboration: Participate in workshops and meetings with industry professionals to gain insights into current trends and workforce needs.
* Research Presentation: Present research findings at national and regional conferences, enhancing public speaking and networking skills.

Department Natural Resources & the Environment - RC2415 Location MURC - Marshall University Research Corporation Semester Fall Semester, Spring Semester, Summer Semester Hours Per Week Full Time (20 hrs a week)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Education

* Enrollment in Natural Resources and the Environment graduate program.
* BS in agricultural, natural resources, education, or related field.

Experience

* Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Education Experience

* Strong interest in agricultural and natural resource sciences with a focus on educational innovation and workforce development.
* Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, R, or similar), and database management (e.g., SQL) is preferred.
* Prior experience in teaching, mentoring, or community outreach is an asset.
* Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in educational practices and research initiatives.
