DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess and maintain a current/valid drivers' license and CDL (with air brake endorsement) within 30 days of offer

2. Possess knowledge and skills to operate and control equipment to industry and DOT standards

3. Minimum one year experience driving vehicle with a rating over 25,000 lbs. GVW

4. Maintain compliance with DOT drug and alcohol testing program

5. Possess small equipment repair skills

6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable

7. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbal and written

8. Experience with computers and email

REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Physical Plant

SUPERVISES: N/A

JOB GOALS : Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Physical Plant, operate the packer truck and perform related duties. During times it is not necessary to perform these duties, the employee will be assigned duties related to general maintenance, vehicle repair, grounds maintenance, equipment/furniture repair, and hauling, in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Operate refuse truck and load and unload dumpsters and trash barrels on a daily basis, for up to eight hours

2. Perform necessary maintenance on packer truck and dumpsters

3. Recommend to Assistant Physical Plant Director repair or replacement of dumpsters

4. Identify and correct potential hazardous situations associated with the total refuse operation i.e. location of dumpsters

5. Assist in management of recycling program

6. Assist in managing the disposal of hazardous wastes

7. General maintenance and repair of custodial equipment

8. Perform emergency work and duties of snow removal

9. Hauling

10. Use of equipment including: refuse truck, dumpsters, hand tools, power tools, and computers.

11. Maintain a safe work environment

12. Shall be able to respond to critical needs at any time of day or night, extending beyond a typical work day, in coordination with other technicians

13. Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, and continuous standing

2. May be exposed to dust, dirt, chemicals, fumes, inclement weather and UV rays

3. Work is both indoors and outdoors

4. Must be physically and medically able to wear respiratory protection

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

1. Twelve-month year, wages and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education

EVALUATION : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District's policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
