  • Position Summary
    • Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the day to day pharmacy operations to provide clinical support and distribution services in coordination with medical staff, nursing, and ancillary services in delivering quality and cost- effective drug therapy to patients.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Work Experience
      • Three years of department specific experience to include hospital experience with I.V. admixtures, unit dose, and computer applications required.
      • Previous management experience preferred.
    • Education
      • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (OR) Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required.
      • Master's degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration or related field preferred.
    • Certifications/Licensure
      • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky by the Kentucky Board of Pharmacy required.

      • Manages the day to day operations of pharmacy department and provides clinical support and distribution services in coordination with medical staff, nursing and ancillary services in delivering quality and cost-effective drug therapy to patients.
      • Prepares periodic reports of the progress of the department for administrative review.
      • Participates in the activities and implementation of the decision of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Task Force.
      • Directs the acquisition and storage of pharmacy stock, including controlled substances.
      • Interprets and evaluates physician orders in order to prepare, calculate, and dispense appropriate medication dosage forms for inpatient and outpatient treatment in accordance with applicable state and federal pharmacy laws, Medical Staff by-laws, and within the standards of the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
      • Compounds and supervises compounding of medication for use.
      • Dispenses medications accurately and on time. Ensures documentation is complete and accurate.
      • Follows established procedures and guidelines as outlined in the pharmacy Policy and Procedure Book for dispensing of medications.
      • Reviews, maintains, and screens patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug/drug and drug/nutrient interactions, and therapeutic duplications while entering orders and/or verifying patient medication cassettes.
      • Communicates with the medical staff, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for prompt clarification of orders that are unclear, illegible, or incomplete and to recommend alternatives for inappropriate therapy of non-formulary items.
      • Monitors medication schedules in relation to the patient's ability to metabolize and eliminate specific drug compounds (i.e. aminoglycoside kinetics, etc.).
      • Provides on-site drug information to medical, nursing, or other professional staff.
      • Serves as an educator of hospital staff and students by preparation of clinical conferences and/or "inservices."
      • Provides discharge counseling about medications to patients when requested or required per pharmacy law.
