Position: ONE-ON-ONE ACADEMIC ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATONS:
- Experience working with children
- or 2 year Associate's Degree
- Some computer skills preferred
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The One-on-One Academic Assistant (1-on-1) performs varied instructional, academic and behavior intervention, and supervisory tasks in regards to a specific student as required by the school. The 1-on-1may be required to assist students with toileting or other bodily functions. Responsibilities may vary depending on the needs of the specific student and the school throughout the year.
REPORTS TO:
The 1-on-1 works under the immediate direction and supervision of the assigned teacher(s) or nurse. The 1-on-1 is evaluated by and ultimately reports to the building principal.
A. GENERAL DUTIES:
- Operates in accordance with established Jumoke Academy policies and administrative regulations.
- As denoted generally above, the 1-on-1 will conduct him/herself in a professional and respectful manner when interacting/speaking with students, families and other staff. Along with other teachers and staff, the 1-on-1 serves as a role model for our students.
- Under the direction of the teacher, assists the teacher in preparation of instructional materials.
- Assists teacher in the implementation of behavioral management strategies/plans.
- Provides in-class support for students to reinforce academic concepts presented.
- Assists teacher in correcting students' work.
- Supervises students when teacher is out of the classroom or as part of an assigned duty.
- Under the direction of the teacher, maintains student data and other records.
- Consults with relevent faculty regarding students' needs and provides input about the program to which he/she is assigned.
- When appropriate, assists teacher in general classroom maintenance.
- Participates in staff and team meeting and in-service programs as directed.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding student information.
- Shares concerns and information about students directly to the teacher or other relevant faculty without directly relaying information to the families. (It is the responsibilty of the teacher to communicate information about a student to the family.)
- Performs other related tasks that may be assigned by the teacher, supervisor, and/or the principal.
