POSITION: Preschool School Psychologist

LOCATION: Exceptional Children/Preschool Department

SALARY: State Salary Schedule

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months

REPORTS TO: Preschool Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

* Degree or higher in School Psychology from an accredited college/university.
* Good knowledge of educational guidelines.
* Leadership qualities to assist in guiding the team in best research-based practices.
* Experience in conducting assessments of young children (ages 2-5) using a team and play-based approach.
* Experience in conducting assessments of young children suspected of autism spectrum disorder and children with low-incidence disabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Identify and assess the learning, development, and adjustment characteristics and needs of individuals and groups, as well as the environmental factors that affect learning and adjustment. Use assessment data about the child and his/her environment(s) in developing appropriate interventions and programs.
* Conduct assessments of preschool-aged children including Transdisciplinary Play-Based Assessment as well as standardized assessments.
* Provide consultation to parents, teachers, other school personnel, and community agencies to enhance the learning and adjustment of students.
* Assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of programs to meet identified learning and adjustment needs of preschoolers.
* Apply ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services and observe relevant laws and policies that govern practice.
* Participate in professional organizations and continually seek to improve professional knowledge and skill.
* Communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, peers, and administrators.
* Participate with Johnston County Public Schools Medicaid Billing Program for eligible Medicaid students, including participation in the Random Moment Time Studies for Medicaid Reimbursable services.
* Maintain confidentiality of student information.
* Report out findings of evaluation to the student's team.
* Adhere to timelines established by policies.
* Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Utilize effective communication oral and in writing with stakeholders.
* Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
* Strong interpersonal relationships with students, staff and parents.
* Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
* Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
