Hospital Orthopedic Service Line Administrator

POSITION SUMMARY

This position serves as an administrative supervisor for the Service Line at Watertown Hospital and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the orthopedic service line including the clinical care, diagnostic evaluation, and non-clinical functions. This position provides leadership, direction, and support for clinical services in the pursuit to achieve quality outcomes, reduce costs, and shape and interpret the standards required to ensure a high degree of patient, physician, and employee satisfaction. Creates a positive working relationship among divisions of the continuum and facilitates a productive working relationship between clinical teams, the medical staff and other ancillary service. This position will also be responsible for acting as an advocate, educator, and experience guide for the orthopedic surgical patient and family members through the surgery care continuum as the primary point of contact with the patient. The Orthopedic Service Line Administrator reports in a matrix management to the facility leadership and leadership of the contracted manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provides leadership for the service line, ensuring its strategic and fiscal growth and positioning the organization as a market leader with employees, physicians, and the community. Collaborates with the community, physicians, and other providers to identify under-met or changing needs of the population and develops new programs accordingly.

Develops a culture of employee engagement and service excellence. Role models behaviors congruent with the organization's principles and values. Establishes high performance standards for service outcomes and works with leadership team to meet standards and continually improve patient satisfaction and loyalty.

Provides direction for process improvement activities for the Orthopedic Service Line, including the establishment of performance measures to attain optimal clinical, operational, financial and satisfaction outcomes. Directs the collection, analysis, and presentation of data on utilization patterns and other program outcomes.

Assists in the collection and analysis of data, metrics, and other information to populate and manage the departmental scorecard

Explores and develops new services and technological advancements related to area(s) of responsibility; plans for current and future needs using research and data; validates need for related resources/capital.

Provides Initial and on-going care coordination across all providers as patient transitions through surgical continuum, including ensuring appropriate pre-op preparation, coordination of patient care throughout the hospital stay and follows-up with patient and other providers post discharge as necessary.

Assesses service line staffing effectiveness for the best provision of services and improving patient and surgeon satisfaction by continual review of key department staffing indicators, competency, and skill mix.

Manages the financial and capital resources for areas of responsibility by monitoring operating revenue and expenses, establishing and maintaining cost control programs and developing and implementing new or revised programs and/or services set out in the business plan.

Responsible for developing, managing, and updating the service line strategic plan (including capital and operating budgets, business plans, and forecasts) as necessary to achieve strategic goals and objectives in consideration of all aspects of the business (clinical, research, and teaching).

Responsible for ensuring overall compliance to Master Service Line Agreement between Watertown Hospital and the Manager.

Serve as liaison for all patients undergoing MSK care for the hospital. Coordinate care and breakdown barriers for optimal patient experience through the continuum of care.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers with an excellent service experience by demonstrating behaviors consistent with the culture of the organization every day. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a level of clinical knowledge as normally obtained through the completion of an RN / PT / PA or related field as well as a level of business knowledge as normally obtained through the completion of a master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field.

Requires a level of knowledge and ability normally achieved by a minimum of 3 years management experience in program development or service line management. Must have the ability to foster and inspire a collaborative work environment; guide and motivate physicians, peers, management, and subordinates; and build strong relationships of trust. Proven ability to work with diverse groups and support staff. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to be assertive and approachable. Must be hard-working, self-motivated, and results oriented. Excellent organization skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
