SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the University Chaplain is to cultivate a spiritually formative climate throughout the university system where students, faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to grow and develop their faith in Christ. Exempt;12-month full-time position serving from an office based on-campus in Spring Arbor, MI

Vibrant Christians - The University is dedicated to guiding students in the development of their Christian faith (understanding students are not required to profess faith in Jesus Christ as a prerequisite for enrollment). The Christian worldview permeates our curricular and co-curricular instruction. Spring Arbor University graduates possess an understanding of and an ability to articulate the Christian faith, its source in Scripture, and its priority among other worldviews.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Tasks of the University Chaplain include the following:

Serve as the "campus pastor" for the SAU community - including traditional undergraduate students, Global students, graduate students, and faculty/staff
Serve as the Andrews Chair by promoting spiritual formation on- and off-campus, supporting scholarship in spiritual formation, and providing spiritual formation leadership for the campus community
Provide vision, develop, implement, and evaluate a robust spiritual life program that creates opportunities for the SAU community to grow in their understanding and experience of the Christian faith. In the past, this has typically included:

Campus Bible studies and small groups
A residential chaplain assistant program
Spring Break mission trips
Service opportunities
Overnight Spiritual Life Retreat

Envision, cultivate, and administer all aspects of a flourishing college Chapel program, including collaborative supervision with the following groups:

The "Almost Chapel" video team with the Dean of the School of Communication,
The Chapel Band team(s) with the Director of Music
The A/V Team (IT and the Arbor Church)

Supervise the Student Government Association student Director of Spiritual Life to advise with facilitating student-led and student-oriented programming
Serve as a member of the Crisis Response Team as well as point person for pastoral care to individuals and the campus community in times of crisis
Serve on various University Committees
Maintain daily positive interaction with students through individual appointments and sustaining a presence on campus by participating in key university events
Assist SAU in nurturing a strong and meaningful bond with the Free Methodist denomination by actively fostering ongoing connections with Bishops, Missionaries, Chaplains from FM educational institutions, and other influential denominational figures
Effectively steward the Chaplain's office and budget
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development & Success (SDS)

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
The University Chaplain is a leader within the Student Development & Success Department and reports to the Vice President for Student Development & Success.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The University Chaplain supervises student leader teams (including collaborative leadership of Almost Chapel, Resident Chaplain Assistants, and Chapel Band)

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master's degree in divinity or theology; advanced divinity or theological degree (DMin or PhD) preferred
Ordained minister; Free Methodist ordination preferred

Demonstrated effectiveness in promoting a Wesleyan/Holiness theological perspective and tenets of the Free Methodist doctrine and Book of Discipline.

Demonstrated capacity and character for effective pastoral ministry
Extensive experience serving a diverse college student population at various locations on their spiritual journey
Understanding and demonstrated capacity to lead as well as work collaboratively as a member of a team
