POSITION: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

REPORTS TO: Director of Clinical Services and Supervisor: BCaBA or BCBA

Primary Function: The Registered Behavioral Technician will provide skill acquisition instruction and implement behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to adults with Autism and related developmental disabilities in all service settings. The RBT will collect data on programs, assist with staff and caregiver training and assist the Behavior Analyst with clinical assessments as needed. The RBTs are viewed as the model staff member for all direct support professionals and are required to uphold the highest level of professionalism and participate in regularly scheduled supervision sessions (during and outside of scheduled work hours) to maintain their RBT Certification.

Requirements:

Employment is contingent on clearing the state required criminal background check, central registry, child abuse registry and drug testing.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to fluently, effectively, perform, and assume all essential functions of a direct support/ direct care professional, when required.
  • Provide direct client care in 1:1 and small group settings utilizing a combination of discrete trial instruction, incidental teaching, and natural environment training arrangements as well as assist the clinical team with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments.
  • Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Follow training protocols and record data for skill acquisition programming.
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior as well as maintain accurate records including but not limited to assessments, current daily notes, and services provided.
  • Assist with staff and caregiver training in line with client's individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols.
  • Effectively communicate with staff and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the clinical supervisor. (Must be willing and able to ask for help when needed and Must be able to share and gather information from other staff and team, as instructed).
  • Maintain a positive attitude as well as a clean, safe, and organized work and therapeutic environment for all individuals and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with the clinical team to implement basic principles and teaching procedures of ABA and to ensure services and interventions meet quality assurance standards and assist with problem solving to improve efficiency within the agency.
  • Be responsive to the needs and requests of clients, their families, and supervisors.

  • Be (1) goal-oriented, results driven, and have a strong interest and desire to teach and (2) maintain professionalism in all aspects of your work.
  • Arrive on time and be prepared for all scheduled sessions and attend regularly scheduled clinical team meetings.

Other Functions:

  • Adhere to the rules, regulations, policies, and processes outlined in the New Horizons in Autism. policy and procedure manual
  • Maintain confidentiality by (1) protecting the individual's: rights to privacy according to HIPAA regulations (2) protecting each individual from abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and (3) maintaining the dignity of all individuals served.
  • Adhere to Ethical Guidelines set forth by the BACB and New Horizons in Autism policies and procedures manual.
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending all required training courses to maintain RBT certification as well as all state and organizationally required training to maintain employment.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Minimally High School Diploma (BA and MA level Graduates or students enrolled in ABA Coursework - Highly Preferred)
  • Minimum age requirement is 20 years of age.
  • Must have a valid NJ Driver's License & insurance in good standing.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel as needed.
  • Must pass a criminal history and central registry background check
  • Must possess and maintain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
  • Must be observant and able to learn quickly from experience. Experience with severe challenging behaviors highly preferred. An ideal candidate will have a strong desire to understand and learn more about applied behavior analysis.
  • Must be able to assist in challenging situations (1) Must be able to encourage, help, and participate in fitness and swimming activities (as needed) including and (2) Be able to utilize safe & appropriate handling procedures when working with clients.
  • Must be a flexible, team player with a desire to share your interests, and talents with the team. An ideal candidate will be compassionate, show initiative, and empathy as well as be able to adapt quickly based on a moment-to-moment analysis.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-year experience implementing Behavior Support Plans and Addressing Challenging Behaviors.
  • Minimum of 1-year of ABA experience, working with adults ages 18 and up, providing services in residential, day program, and community settings; Experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis; Job Coach, Occupational Training, Educational, Speech, or Allied Health Services. (If no direct ABA experience: 1-2 years of experience working as a Special Education Assistant, Paraprofessional Teacher's Assistant, or ABA Tutor in a school or home setting).

All NHIA staff will be required to cooperate with the licensee, Department of Human Service (DHS) staff in any inspection or investigation. DCP staff must also work in collaboration with NHIA's fact-finding internal investigators.
