Instructional Coach (Mathematics)

Position Title:

Mathematics Coach

Summary:

As a member of the charter school faculty, the Mathematics Instructional Coach will serve as an active resource for the classroom teachers, demonstrate classroom instructional strategies and provide assistance to students within a classroom, group or individual setting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • New Jersey Standard Teaching Certification
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  • Understand the requirement to maintain confidentiality concerning charter school related matters.
  • Prior to employment, the following must be addressed:
  • Required to complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1.
  • Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2.
  • Pass the state required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.3.
  • A valid driver's license is preferred.
  • Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school director finds appropriate and acceptable.

Performance Responsibilities:

The Mathematics Instructional coach shall:
  • Pursue the vision and execute the mission of iLearn Schools Inc.
  • Pursue the vision and execute the mission of iLearn Schools Mathematics Program
  • Serve as a contributing member of the charter school's office team.
  • Support and promote board and administrative initiatives and decisions.
  • Possess an understanding of the charter school renewal process and assist with the process as needed.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel and outside agencies associated with the charter school.
  • Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through professional growth.
  • Adhere to federal statutes and regulations, New Jersey school law, New Jersey Department of Education rules and regulations, iLearn Schools Inc. policies, procedures and contractual obligations.
  • Take immediate action and notify appropriate personnel concerning any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.
  • Follow school affirmative action procedures.
  • Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend any required meetings.
  • Attend special events and other school sponsored activities and functions.
  • Help foster the development and success of professional learning communities within the school.
  • Knowledge of the charter school technology plan and the infusion of technology strategies and equipment within classroom instructional lessons and teacher organizational tasks.
  • Possess and understanding of the school emergency response plan.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
  • May represent the charter school at community, county, state and professional meetings.
  • Articulate effective instructional practices by providing intellectual stimulation, being actively involved in and having knowledge of current research in curriculum, instruction and assessment.
  • Be an active listener giving full attention to what others are saying, taking the time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership and direction to support the infusion of the Common Core State Standards and charter school education goals and objectives by promoting active learning and skill development in the Mathematics content area.
  • Demonstrate exemplary mathematics instruction for teachers through the following of researched-based practices: observation, coaching, model lessons, collaborative lesson planning, and small and large group professional development
  • Plan and conduct mathematics team meetings through the PLC structure
  • Assist with disaggregating and analyzing Benchmark, NJSLA Prep and other district assessment data to help guide teacher's instructional decisions
  • Communicate with the School Director about the needs, successes and general operations of the charter school.
  • Assist with the development of department objectives, curriculum documents, performance benchmarks, timelines and reports.
  • Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through professional growth.
