POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: High School Equivalency Program Outreach and Placement Specialist

Job Description: The Outreach and Placement Specialist reports to the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) Associate Director, who assigns outreach, recruitment, and placement goals. The Specialist makes initial contact with prospective HEP students and assists them in the admissions process. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for following up with students after obtaining their high school equivalency diploma and assisting them with their plans after program completion.

Department: Multicultural Education

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

* Design and implement outreach plan to recruit 70 students annually.
* Make initial contact and interview prospective students to verify that they meet eligibility and commitment requirements for program participation.
* Administer admission testing and assist potential students during application process.
* Document and organize all information related to student eligibility to be evaluated for program admission.
* Establish and maintain constant communication with collaborative agencies that can provide referrals and support to students.
* Attend and present HEP information at various meetings to promote the program.
* Follow-up with GED Completers to explore placement opportunities.
* Make individual/group presentations for students on college admission process, resume building, interview skills, job application process, etc.
* Maintain constant communication with General Educational Development (GED) diploma attainers to assist them with plans after graduation.
* Assist in the planning of orientation, graduation, and other student activities.
* Transport students to testing sites and other locations as needed.
* Collect and compile data for weekly, monthly, and annual progress reports for program evaluation.

WORKING LOCATION & DEMANDS

* This position will be at ABACs main campus in Tifton, Georgia
* Office setting with minimal lifting or physical requirements
* Travel throughout the service area will be required.
* Must work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the population: weekends, and/or evenings are required at least twice a week.
* Must hold a current Georgia drivers license.
* This position is exempt from overtime.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

* Minimum Qualifications:
* Associates degree, (Bachelors degree in any educational field preferred).
* Bilingual in English and Spanish (fluency/proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking) is required.
* Culturally competent to the needs of migrant and seasonal farm workers.
* Basic computer literacy skills with email, Word, Excel, and other Microsoft 365 programs.
* Demonstrated competency in self-motivation and initiative.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Preferred Qualifications in addition to the previous list:
* Experience working with the migrant and seasonal farm worker population for one to three years.

SALARY is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is 100% grant funded.
