Medical Laboratory 3rd shift-Nights-FT

Under the supervision of the Medical Director and/or Laboratory Manager, performs phlebotomy and clinical tests in the areas of hematology, urinalysis, general clinical microscopy, blood banking, serology, bacteriology, coagulation, chemistry, arterial blood gases, and special chemistry to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Performs tests, procedures and analyses as requested by the physician and in accordance with all regulatory regulations.
* Performs quality control for all procedures. Posts or verifies results on computer; takes action when indicated by the values.
* Verifies correct information prior to blood drawing: A) completes drawing information (time, date, etc.); B) conforms to lab policy on blood drawing; C) completely and accurately labels tubes with patient's name, date of birth, and identification number.
* Always immediately communicates to the physician or RN any critical or markedly unusual results.
* Communicates at shift change lab status and/or problems.
* Exhibits good working knowledge and logic in troubleshooting and repair of instruments. Maintains the equipment and work area in a clean, orderly manner on a daily basis and documents repairs required.
* Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Knowledge of basic laboratory tests and procedures.
* Math and computer skills.
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* Associates of Science degree with a certification from a national accreditation agency ASCP, CLS, NCA. or
* A minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited institution that at a minimum, include 24 hours of science courses as listed in the CLIA Interpretive Guidelines 403.1489 and have completed an clinical laboratory training program.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

* Associates of Science degree with a certification from a national accreditation agency.
* One year relevant experience.

REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

* Registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, (ASCP) and/or CLS Registry with National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel, Inc. (NCA) or HEW certification.
