Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant or Intern

South Dakota State University is an NCAA Division I institution located in Brookings, SD. SDSU competes in The Summit League for all sports except football (Missouri Valley Football Conference), wrestling (Big XII Conference), and women's equestrian (National Collegiate Equestrian Association).

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Graduate Assistant or Intern will serve as the primary media contact for to-be-determined assigned sports and assist with other sports as needed. They will be responsible for all communication/public relations needs for these sports, including but not limited to in-game statistics, website maintenance, social media content and interview requests.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, sports management or a related field
  • One year of related experience in sports information/public relations
  • Experience writing sports previews and recaps
  • Understanding of social media and content creation
  • Familiarity with sports photography and camera use
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload; demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work various hours including nights and weekends
  • South Dakota State uses Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, NCAA Live Stats and Stat Crew Software; previous experience with these programs is preferred.

COMPENSATION: Graduate assistant: Stipend, plus graduate school tuition and fees
Intern: Hourly wage based on experience
