Work directly with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to provide person centered support; promoting confidentiality, privacy, human dignity, uniqueness, and physical and emotional well-being while supporting the individual to lead a self-directed life. Support people to develop and maintain relationships, advocate for justice, fairness and equity and full community participation. A DSP will show respect, integrity and responsibility for the individuals they support, other staff members and the community they work in.

* Trains staff in areas such as but not limited to: Behavior Support Plans, mental health disorders, and functional behavior assessment. Provides hands-on training and observation in any direct service area to ensure appropriate implementation of service plans.
* Develops and assists in the development of a meaningful and realistic plan of service to maximize independence, productivity and community inclusion based on current assessment and collaboration with internal and external team members.
* Ensures behavior guidelines are reviewed according to the timeframes established in regulations for performance against goals to determine what changes should be made to provide a more effective experience for the people we support and ensures updates are communicated to staff in a timely manner.
* Acts as liaison between Behavior Intervention Specialist and direct service staff to ensure observations and information is communicated in a timely manner.
* Ensure behavior documentation is completed thoroughly. Follow up with staff and/or management if documentation is not complete or requires clarification. Notify Behavior Intervention Specialist with any concerns found in behavior documentation.
* Respond to crisis situations and model appropriate responses for crises for other staff. Ensure that staff are comfortable in responding to a crisis
* Associates' Degree in human services or related field with three years utilizing behavior support plans; or an acceptable combination of education and experience is required.
* Experience working with individuals with intellectual and development disabilities is required.
* Valid NYS driver's license required.
* Must have access to timely and reliable transportation to transport self to multiple sites.
* Must maintain current required certifications as designated by the agency including but not limited to: AMAP, SCIP-R, First Aid/CPR
