Teacher Director

Department: Educational Services Work Year: 12 months

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction and supervision of the Early Childhood Education Director, the Early Childhood Education Teacher creates age appropriate lesson plans, programs and activities, prepares curriculum materials, maintains records and ensures a safe, clean environment for pre-k and school age children and staff. Supervises students in classroom and playground, helps prepare and serve food, and performs other duties directly related to this job description.

DUTIES AND RESPONISBILITIES:

General:

Plans and provides age appropriate instruction and activities for the development of basic physical, emotional and cognitive skills.

Prepares instructional materials and provides age appropriate programs and activities.

Supervises all activities of children in the preschool program managing and shaping children's behavior through positive reinforcement and strategies.

Provides a functional, attractive environment for children and ensures the cleanliness and safety of the facilities.

Assists in food preparation and serving as needed.

Maintains open and effective home-school communications and greets families as needed.

Participates as a member of district committees as required.

Participates in emergency response activities as necessary.

Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.

Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Knowledge of general concepts of child growth and development and behavior characteristics.

Ability to demonstrate an understanding, warm and receptive attitude toward children.

Skill and ability to make sound, independent judgments, to take quick and effective action as necessary, to effectively supervise pupils.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Ability to communicate effectively with family members of students.

Ability to maintain a neat, orderly and attractive learning environment.

Ability to use a computer to create documents, communicate with staff, and search the Internet.

Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the District and/or self-selected professional growth activities.

Job Particulars:

Tools/equipment/work aids - All body fluids shall be handled as if infectious. Disposable waterproof gloves are to be worn. After each use, gloves are to be disposed of in lined waste container.

Environmental Conditions:

Indoor and outdoor school campus environment.

Temperature - normal climate. Occasional adverse weather conditions.

Contacts:

Daily contact with students, parents, and teachers.

Regular/occasional contact with parents, community members and outside agency personnel.

Occupational Certificates/Licenses:

High school Diploma or equivalent.

First Aid and CPR certification.

Must have a valid Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or valid California Teaching Credential.

Physical Conditions:

Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; operate a computer and keyboard; near visual acuity to review written documentation; facility to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone; physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds to shoulder height; pushing students in a wheelchair.
