Non-CDL Driver

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Support transportation operations by safely driving students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the

Director of Transportation. A white fleet driver is responsible for being at work on time every day. Maintain a

harmonious relationship with transportation staff, district administrator, campus staff and community members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

? High School Diploma or GED-required

? Valid Driver's Licence Class C

? Successful completion of behind-the-wheel training

? Successful completion of a 20-hour Texas Department of Public Safety Certification course

? First Aid and CPR Certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

? Ability to maintain an acceptable driving record

? Be able to maintain the confidentiality of all records

? Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form with all levels of management both

internal and external

? Capable of assessing situations in emergencies quickly and reacting with necessary measures for the

protection and well-being of the passengers

? Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English

? Ability to effectively communicate with parents and school personnel

? Ability to manage students

Experience:

? Must be at least 21 years of age

? 2 years of vehicle driving experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Report to work in accordance with assigned work schedule

2. Perform and document a pre-trip and post-trip inspection on every vehicle driven according to approved

Splendora ISD and National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration guidelines and report all defects in

writing to the shop immediately

3. Exercise caution and safety while driving, following all traffic laws and safety guidelines

4. Follow the assigned route as written and communicate changes to the appropriate staff

5. Ensure student safety while loading and unloading students

6. Maintain student discipline to ensure the safety of students being transported, address student discipline

issues using approved techniques and communicate with school personnel regarding student behavior

7. Report and complete all required documentation for vehicle collisions, vehicle damage and student injuries

8. Documenting and reporting inappropriate and unacceptable behavior

9. Be aware of all student's disabilities and special needs. Any medical problems experienced by the students

while being transported, must be reported by the driver and/or special needs aide to the Director. Followed

up with a written report.

10. Complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) to assure student records,

behavior and readership confidentiality

11. Maintaining and updating student records on a timely basis

12. Recognizing evidence of abuse and neglect

13. Maintain confidentiality in all matters concerning student transportation

14. To cooperate with supervisory staff

15. Attend safety meetings and other trainings as necessary

16. Other duties as assigned

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Posture: Frequent standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling and twisting; work

in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Motion: Frequent walking; frequent climbing, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension and overhead

reaching; frequent driving.

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme

hot and cold temperatures, dust and noise. May work alone, regularly work irregular hour and occasional

prolonged hours
