Under the direction of the Mental Health and Disabilities Coordinator, the Behavioral Interventionist provides behavioral support, intervention, and case management to clients in order to facilitate their positive adjustment to the classroom expectations, and to strengthen the connection between home, school, and the community.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collect and document information necessary to perform Functional Behavior Assessments on students with complex behavioral challenges.
Develop positive behavior intervention plans for individual students.
Train necessary staff to implement Positive Behavior Intervention Plans.
Maintain appropriate records for the purpose of continuous progress monitoring.
Provide training for Staff in data collection and documentation of various behavior interventions.
Participate as a member of educational teams to design, implement and oversee behavior interventions within the classroom and school.
Communicate with and engage parents in the implementation of behavioral interventions as appropriate.
Work directly with students in classroom and/or other environments, as necessary, to model behavior intervention strategies for staff.
Provide direct instruction to students in social skills, self-regulation strategies.
Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of Head Start
Participates as a member of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team as appropriate.
Perform such other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
DIRECT SERVICE: Assists students with emotional and/or behavioral challenges in their efforts to participate in school. Teaches appropriate social skills and coping skills to students. Supports classroom staff with a variety of methods including modelling and hands-on support real-time with students experiencing a loss of emotional or behavioral control. Provides support to the Early Head Start program. Works cooperatively with Early Head Start Staff, Children, Families, and Partners.

CASE MANAGEMENT AND SPECIALIZED REHABILITATION: Coordinates services on behalf of students and acts as a liaison between school, home and other community supports. Acts as an information conduit to teach social skills related to various community settings that the students habituate.

CONSULTATION: Consults with school personnel about student behavior and assists in the development of behavioral plans for students in the program. Provides consultation to parents and other service providers as needed, including regular parent group meetings.

RECORD KEEPING: Complies with all UCS documentation requirements including child files and reports, clinical paperwork, and time sheets.
