POSITION PURPOSE:

The Micah Scholars Director for Pre-Healthcare leads a dedicated academic community of pre-healthcare students. This position plays a key role in strengthening future generations of pre-healthcare students at Concordia, enabling them to find a community of others who have been granted the gift of being able to understand the science of God's world and who share a desire, through the healthcare vocations, to be Christ's hands and feet to a world in need. The Director will interact extensively with both current and prospective Concordia students and will engage with educators, guidance counselors, and leaders of both Concordia University and local healthcare providers. At maturity, the program will serve a community of approximately forty pre-healthcare students, and through them will be a blessing to thousands.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree required, Masters or above preferred, favoring degrees in the Natural or Health Sciences.
* Experience working as a healthcare provider.
* Experience in academic or vocational advising for high school and/or college students.
* Broad exposure to and relationships within the healthcare industry.
* Experience working directly with high school and/or college age young adults in a leadership, teaching, or coaching capacity.
* Relevant experiences within the areas of recruitment, community building, and leadership.
* High degree of professionalism with the ability to positively represent the University.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Self-sufficiency and an inherent desire to achieve goals.
* Commitment to setting and achieving annual personal performance goals.
* Proficiency in the use of software applications including Microsoft applications, spreadsheets, and word processing, and a willingness to learn specific constituent relationship management (CRM) packages for database management and report generation.
* Healthcare certification desirable but not required.
* Valid driver's license required.

JOB DUTIES/DESCRIPTION:

* Recruit an annual cohort of Micah Scholars (ideally 15-16 senior, high school students) with a mix of healthcare vocational goals.
* Work directly with Admissions, the Director of Dual Credit, and campus leadership to identify high school students with a heart for service, a head for science, and a desire to be a part of a specific academic community of likeminded students called to healthcare vocations.
* Engage high school students and develop ongoing relationships to create and uphold an effective team of scholars.
* Organize experiences outside of the classroom to help program participants reach their highest potential in the pre-health sciences and guide them as they engage in both volunteer activities and healthcare employment.
* As a champion both on and off campus for Micah Scholars and pre-healthcare vocations, work with Concordia's Department of Natural Sciences and Concordia's Department of Health and Human Performance to help provide an excellent on-campus experience for pre-healthcare students.
* Develop and maintain relationships with local healthcare providers, assisting them in their respective missions by matching their needs with Concordia pre-healthcare students through employment, internships, shadowing, and volunteer experiences.
* Work with the Director of the Campus Wellness Center, local healthcare providers, and community partners to coordinate volunteer and shadowing experiences, internships, and healthcare employment for Micah Scholars.
* Take a leadership role in coordinating appropriate field trips and lectures, journal clubs, study halls, and other activities that will help Micah Scholars exercise the gifts God has given them in preparation for graduate and professional school.
* Advise Micah Scholars in their preparation for graduate and professional school, documenting both student success and potential challenges faced as they apply.
* Serve as a resource for other campus pre-healthcare students who are preparing for healthcare vocations who are not part of the Micah Scholars Program.
* Maintain communication with area and partner high schools - specifically guidance counsellors and science teachers - and with healthcare graduate and professional schools.
