The Histology Tech -
  1. Performs histologic techniques:
  1. Processes tissues: manual, microwave and automatic
  2. Embeds different types and sizes of tissues
  3. Sections different types and sizes of tissues in preparation for stain
  4. Stains: routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining for confirmatory reasons
  5. Cover slips stained tissue sections for archival purposes
  6. Labels stained slides for proper identification and diagnostic purposes
  7. Prepares and maintains reagents and equipment
  8. Performs cutting and staining of frozen section specimen
  1. Performs cytological techniques if assigned within the shift:
  1. Processes the specimen by the centrifuge
  2. Prepares smears of cytology specimens for microscopic examination
  3. Performs Papanicolaou Stain and Diff Quick Stain on smears
  4. Prepares cell blocks
  1. Files and retrieves blocks and slides
  2. Quality control and Quality assurance activities
  3. Chemical supplies inventory
  4. Manages chemical and biological wastes
  5. Morgue coverage if needed
  6. Performs other duties as necessary for efficient operation of the department

At least 1 year experience in a Histology Laboratory, preferred. This may include completion of an ASCP education program. NYS Licensed Laboratory / Histology Technician - Required.
Salary Range: $29.195/Hr - $30.647/Hr (Commensurate with Experience)
