Wait Staff Job Description
Below is an outline of duties and expectations of what Three Dollar Café is looking for from our wait staff.
Necessary Tasks:
• Guest Service - Wait staff are responsible for a variety of guest service tasks including but not limited to :
o Providing excellent guest service
o Greeting patrons once they are seated o Explaining menu items to guests
o Answering questions from guests about food and beverages
o Updating information with guests about the status of their orders
o Refilling guest drink orders throughout their meal
o Being sensible to guests who may need additional items or help
o Following up with guests to verify they are satisfied with their orders
• Sales Duties - Wait staff must be able to handle different sales specific tasks including but not limited to
o Up-selling additional food, desserts and beverages
o Suggestive selling of promotional items
o Taking orders from guests and inputting them accurately into a POS system
o Delivering checks in a timely and polite manner Accepting payments precisely
o Encouraging guests to complete surveys, contests, etc.
• Operations
o Communicating guest orders to kitchen staff when needed
o Ensuring guest orders are presented properly
o Delivering orders to guests in an efficient manner
o Removing empty plates, silverware, cups and used napkins from tables
o Determining when guests have completed their meals
o Attending team and/or shift meetings in a punctual manner
o Training new food servers o Assisting other team members
• Compliance - Wait staff plays an important role in regulatory obligations including but not limited to:
o Verifying age of guests who order alcoholic beverages
o Adhering to health dept. rules and regulations
o Practicing and training the principles of safe food handling and service
o Compliant with Three Dollar Café's bylaws and practices
• Hostess - During downtimes, clockedin wait staff are expected to perform hostess duties that include but not limited to:
o Taking orders by phone in an accurate manner
o Answering the phone in an energetic greeting mentioning the restaurant, your name, and how you can assist.
o Assembling to-go orders properly and verifying
o Having guests verify their to-go orders at pick-up
o Greeting guests at the door and seating them
o Cash register operations
• Service and setup - Wait staff is expected to set up their section along with doing running and weekly side work that include but not limited to:
o Keeping their section cleaned at all times. I.e. Floor, tables, chairs, etc.
o Having their tables well stocked i.e. -ketchup bottles, sweetener containers, salt & pepper shakers, paper towels, etc.
o Rolling silverware
o Mopping their section
o Wiping down glass where needed
o Cleaning soda machines thoroughly
o Cleaning baseboards and partitions
o Performing their scheduled cleaning duties in a timely manner
o Restocking and cleaning service areas i.e. tea, coffee, napkins, to-go area, condiments, lemons, creamers, straws, ice, cups, sanitizing, wiping countertops, etc.
• Knowledge, skills and abilities
o Ability to operate a point of sale system (POS) including processing payments.
o Ability to communicate in a professional manner with guests and team members
o Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions and menu items
o Previous food/retail service experience or formal training in hospitality of 2 yrs a plus in a fast paced environment.
• Physical Requirements:
o Well-kept in personal hygiene
o Always smiling
o Ability to lift, carry, deliver and serve from trays weighing up to 50lbs throughout an 8hr shift
o Ability to stand and walk continuously throughout an 8hr shift Ability to bend and reach while carrying plates and trays throughout an 8hr shift
o Visual acuity to review restaurant menus, take orders, navigate dining area, kitchen, other parts of the facility o Ability to attend work and meetings as scheduled
