Elmhurst Hospital Center (EHC) is the major tertiary care provider in the borough of Queens. The hospital is comprised of 545 beds and is a Level I Trauma Center, an Emergency Heart Care Station and a 911 Receiving Hospital. 8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M

Job Description

Under direction, supervise, direct and coordinate several programmatic aspects of a medical record department in a municipal hospital, medical center component, skilled nursing facility, ambulatory care facility or health care organization; perform related work.

Duties & Responsibilities
1. Supervise associate medical record specialists and other staff
2. Train subordinate medical record personnel and other professional administrative staff
3. Analyze clinical records for completeness and accuracy with regard to present and potential use
4. Perform monitoring activities which may include studies and audits for medical research and data quality control
5. Assign and reassign staff as necessary to meet work requirements

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in Medical Record Administration with at least one year experience as a Medical Record Specialist or Medical Record Technician.
2. Completion of a course of study for Medical Record Technicians approved by the American Medical Record Association and two years experience as a Senior Medical Record Specialist or Medical Record Technician, one of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or,
3. A certificate issued upon completion of the Correspondence Course for medical record personnel given by the American Medical Record Association plus the experience listed in item (2); or,
4. High School graduation or evidence of having passed an examination for the High School Equivalency Diploma or the U.S. Armed Forces GED certificate with a score of at least thirty-five on each of the five tests and an overall score of at least two-hundred-and-twenty-five in the examination for the certificate and three years experience as a Senior Medical Record Specialist or Medical Record Technician, one of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or,
5. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
