Job Specific Responsibilities and Tasks: Duties may include but are not limited to:

Core Duties:
• Develops, evaluates, and revises local mission and vision statements, goals, measurable objectives and action plans. Develops and maintains the local Operating Instruction (OI) for Infection Prevention and Control (IC). Aligns IC goals with the MTF.
• Implement the MTF IPCP IAW AFI 44-108, Infection Prevention and Control Program.
• Assists the MTF with accreditation preparation activities, regulatory readiness, and monitors compliance.
• Participates in quality/ performance improvement and patient safety activities related to IC. Develops the annual Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA); prioritizes according to the level of probability and potential for harm. Develops and coordinates the annual Infection Prevention and Control Program Plan (IPCPP) based upon the approved ICRA prioritized list. Updates the IPCPP as needed throughout the year.
• Participates in quality/performance improvement (PI) and patient safety (PS) activities related to IP
• Reviews and revises local IC policies and procedures IAW national guidelines and local, state, and federal regulations.
• Ensures IC standards are implemented throughout the MTF; e.g., sterilization and disinfection practices, construction, renovation, and isolation protocols.
• Advises staff and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and committees that include, but are not limited to, Infection Prevention and Control Function (ICF), Environment of Care Committee (EOC), Nurse Executive Function (NEF), Executive Committee of the Medical Staff (ECOMS), and Performance Improvement.
• Participates in AF and Defense Health Agency (DHA) IC forums, teleconferences, and meetings.
• Collects and compiles surveillance data from patient care areas and inputs Healthcare-Associated Infection (HAI) data.
• Collaborates with the MTF Commander (CC), Chief of the Medical Staff (SGH), and the ICF on determining the capabilities of the MTF according to the level of probability and potential harm to be considered in the Infection Prevention and Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) process.
• Coordinates and consults on service contracts and plans that have IC implications, to include the Hospital Aseptic Management System (HAMS) or equivalent housekeeping contract, linen contract, and waste management contract.
• Collaborates with Patient Safety (PS) and Risk Management (RM) on tracking and trending of IC near misses, events and/or issues relating to PS and the National Patient Safety Goal (NPSGs) pertaining to IC.
• Develops and implements MTF-wide Infection Prevention and Control education and training.
• Maintains knowledge of IC issues occurring world-wide as provided through valid communication sources (e.g. DHA, CDC, WHO, APIC).
• Within the parameters of the approved plan, the employee is responsible for managing the ICP at the installation.


Minimum Qualifications:

• Degree:A Master's degree is preferred, but Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology or Microbiology is acceptable.

• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of current experience in infection prevention and control performed within the past 5 years.

* Life Support Certification: Possess a current AHA OR ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
