Meeker, United States Pioneers Medical Center Full time

The Long Term Care Director is responsible for the planning, direction, implementation and evaluation of resident care on the Walbridge Memorial Convalescent Wing (Walbridge Wing), ensuring that care is delivered in an effective, efficient, safe fashion. The Long Term Care Director collaborates with the Chief Nursing Officer and other appropriate staff in the areas of infection control, staff education, quality assessment and continuous quality improvement, and risk management. Additionally, the Long Term Care Director coordinates with Social Services, the Activities Director and the MDS Coordinator to ensure appropriate operation of the department. The Long Term Care Director is accountable for the consistent administration of policies and procedures and ensuring that state, federal and facility standards are adhered to.

Qualifications:

A. PROFESSIONAL

* Baccalaureate or Masters Degree in Nursing preferred.
* Current unrestricted RN licensure by the Colorado Board of Nursing required.
* Experience in long term care/geriatric care required.
* Demonstrated management/supervisory and operating/capital budget experience required. Degree / experience in Business Administration or related field a plus.
* Current BLS (CPR) certification (preferred; required within six months of date of employment or transfer).
* Demonstrated knowledge of confidentiality principles.
* Knowledge of current trends/techniques in long term care and nursing practice.
* Train the Trainer certification to provide Certified Nursing Assistant classes preferred; required within 6 months of employment or transfer.
* Wound care certification desired.

B. PERSONAL

* Completes physical and work capacity evaluation.
* Cognizant of the potential for exposure to blood/body fluids. Understands and utilizes universal precautions.
* Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times.
* Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal communication skills necessary to deal effectively with patients/residents/families, hospital and medical staff, and the public.
* Demonstrates leadership and teaching abilities.
* Understands the need to adhere to established dress code. Presenting a neat and well-groomed professional appearance.
* Present and punctual for scheduled shift.
* Differing shift work may be required in order to ensure adequate coverage and optimal patient care. May be required to work days, nights, weekends and holidays and to perform additional duties as assigned.
* Adheres to the standards and policies of the corporate compliance program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulation, and report to a designated manager (or employer hotline) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts or practices.
* Adheres to the safety guidelines as outlined by the facility and reports unsafe equipment, areas, practices, etc., as required by policy.

C. HAZARDS

* Exposure to biohazardous waste, blood/body fluids, odors, chemical agents and explosive gases.
* Subject to intermittent sitting, lifting, walking, standing, and bending activities during the work day. Is expected to adhere to principles of proper body mechanics.
* May be subject to cramped work spaces. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls and other injury. Is expected to follow facility safety practices and protocols.

D. WORKING CONDITIONS

* Requires sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, moving and keyboarding intermittently during working hours.
* Is required to function in stressful situations which require critical thinking and simultaneous resolution of multiple management, social, professional and patient care issues.
* Must be able to cope with life and death situations as well as other unique situations that pertain to patient care and nursing.
* Subject to frequent interruptions.
* Must be knowledgeable of and adhere to State and Federal Regulations, Nurse and Nursing Aide Practice Acts, OSHA guidelines and the standards of patient care/policies and procedures.
* Must be able to pass/administer medications, including narcotics and to account for supply of narcotics.

E. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Must be able to communicate in an effective and understandable manner with patients, residents, staff, visitors, etc.
* Must possess visual/auditory senses, or use prosthetic devices that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position will be met.
* Must be able to function and make decisions independently.
* Must demonstrate the ability to understand and follow written/verbal instructions.
* Must be able to cope with physical/emotional stress of the job. Demonstrates, under stress, good communication, management and interpersonal skills.
* Must possess personal integrity, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with other personnel.
* Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
* Must observe and adhere to proper principles of body mechanics.
* Must demonstrate familiarity with computer operation; data entry, report generation, modem transmission, troubleshooting, Windows-based operating systems. Possesses other computer skills i.e., keyboard, mouse and printer operations.
