Position Description

Position Title: Assistant Cheer Coach

Accountability Objectives

The selected individual will assist the Head Coach in organizing, developing, implementing, and supervising the assigned squad. The assigned individual(s) will assist in the selection, training, and performance of the cheer squad which will inspire school interest, promote school spirit, and generate support of the athletic programs.

Position Characteristics

Recruited and hired by the Activities Director/Principal. Wages, paid vacation, paid holidays, sick leave and pay day are determined by the negotiated agreement. Work day and hours are determined by the Activities Director/Principal.

Position Relationships

Reports to the Head Cheer Coach and the Activities Director. Cheer coaches will work with head coaches from other sports, club sponsors, and other school personnel including maintenance, secretaries, teachers, and the administration.

Position Qualifications

Candidates shall possess basic knowledge of the exercises, routines, and techniques necessary for the assigned squad as well as one of the following:
  • a valid Nebraska Teaching and/or Administrative & Supervisory certificate.
  • a valid Provisional Trades Certificate and/or a valid Special Services certificate.

Position Responsibilities
  • Assists both in making plans and supervising all practices and events that require the participation of team members. This includes overnight stays for competitions and camps throughout the year.
  • Assists in organization and implementation of tryouts on an annual basis for the specific squad.
  • Assists in the coordination of travel schedules as it relates to contests or competitions.
  • Comply with district, state, and national regulations as it pertains to membership and the choreography of the routines.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports regarding the activity of the squad that include awards won, individual awards, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Activities Director and/or Building Principal.
