Description of Work

The primary purpose of the position is to provide laboratory support to faculty and staff in the Department of Natural Sciences which offers undergraduate degree programs in Biology and Sustainability. The position will assist in preparation of laboratory materials (molecular biology, biotechnology, microbiology, genetics, cell biology, ecology and organismal biology); provide support to the department's graduate program in Biology by assisting the graduate faculty and students with research preparation and techniques; and design and perform experimental procedures required for biological research with a high degree of efficiency and accuracy.

Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position

Possess a thorough knowledge of standard molecular biology and biochemical lab

techniques including but limited to experience in PCR, western blots, DNA, RNA, protein

biochemistry and maintenance of insect, mammalian, amphibian, and plant cell/tissue cultures.

Provide good customer service and communication skills with the general public, faculty, staff, and students.

Minimum Training and Experience

Master's Degree in Biology or related area or a Bachelors degree with at least 2 years of experience in laboratory support and/or management or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess a minimum of 18 graduate coursework in specified discipline.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

None.
