Job Title: Lead Neurodiagnostic Technologist

Unit: Neurodiagnostic Lab

Shift: Varied, 1st Shift, w/e, holiday, on-call

Facility: MVH

The Lead Neurodiagnostic Technologist is responsible for coordinating all duties associated with the Neurodiagnostic Lab. Responsible for maintaining staffing levels at the appropriate budgeted levels. Provides immediate supervisor with information regarding the daily operations and gives input into programs, procedure development and staff evaluations. In a timely manner, will deal with direct reports effectively and hold others accountable. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory guidelines, including the completion of any quality assurance testing. Independently performs neurodiagnostic procedures including both routine & long-term electroencephalograms (EEGs) and all modalities of evoked potential procedures under their scope of practice. Is knowledgeable in correct EEG, long-term monitoring (LTM), continuous (CEEG)/ICU monitoring, and evoked potential (EP) performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows the facility's policy and procedures. Exercises professional judgement in the performance of exams and communicates effectively with the neurologist and other staff members. May have on call responsibilities.

Essential Duties & Functions:

1. Assumes responsibility for the daily activities of the unit, exercises professional judgement in the performance of their duties, and coordinates patient care. Freely gives recognition and is able to delegate duties. Practices problem-solving and problem-prevention skills.

2. Performs EEG procedures of diagnostic quality as ordered by the referring physician on patients of all ages according to established protocols and evaluates EEGs and EP studies for technical quality.

3. Assists Neurologist in special procedures and in performing medical treatment during emergency situations.

4. Obtains clinical history and data for correlation with the EEG/EP procedure.

5. Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System.

6. Implements activation procedures and safety measures in accordance with EEG/EP policies / procedures.

7. Identifies various types of EEG patterns. Performs video EEGs with knowledge to clip continuous EEG for physician interpretation.

8. Communicates effectively with physicians and co-workers. Assesses learning needs and educates patients/families regarding procedures based on individual needs. Thoroughly educates patients about exam.

9. Coordinates patient care with other areas in order to optimize patient time and satisfaction.

10. Ensures that all records, files and reports are properly recorded as required, performs clerical duties when necessary, verifies a signed physician order is received and corresponds with the billed procedure.

11. Maintains equipment in good working condition. Maintains knowledge of the locations and operation of all emergency equipment in the unit.

Education Required: Associate degree

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

§ CPR Certification required

§ One or more of the following is preferred:

§ R.EEG.T registry preferred

§ R.EP.T registry preferred

§ C. LTM registry preferred

§ CNIM registry preferred

Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience

Prior job title or occupational experience: Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist

Preferred experience: 3-5 years of experience in Electroencepholgrams (EEG) and Evoked Potentials (EP)

Other experience requirements: Intracranial EEG/ECoG/Epilepsy surgery

Knowledge/Skills:

§ Correlates patient history and clinical symptoms

§ Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology

§ Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
