The Seasonal /Temporary Surgical Tech will be employed to fill open positions for 13 week blocks with the option of renewing up to an additional 13 weeks per year for a maximum of 26 weeks. The rate of pay is $55.00 per hour. This position will not be eligible to receive shift differentials, holiday differentials or any premium pay and will not be eligible to receive any Speare employee benefits. Holiday and weekend shifts may be required.

The Seasonal/Temporary Surg Tech cannot be a current staff member or have worked for Speare within the last six months.

The Surgical Technologist assists the Surgical Team in organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities that occur in the surgical environment by performing assigned technical duties.

  • Individualizes preoperative planning and prepares for surgical intervention to meet the needs of each patient and physician by:
  • Reviewing physician preference cards
  • Consulting with the circulator
  • Having knowledge and understanding of operative anatomy and physiology
  • Knowing the common complications of surgical procedures
  • Prepares surgical suite/clinical area and all supplies/equipment to ensure environmental safety for patients and staff as demonstrated by:
  • Selecting appropriate supplies and equipment
  • Checking equipment for working order and reporting unsafe working conditions to the appropriate person
  • Helping in physical preparation of the clinical area
  • Verifying exposure to sterilization process
  • Opening supplies aseptically
  • Establishing and maintaining sterile field
  • Identifying principles and techniques of disinfecting, sterilization, and environmental control
  • Assisting with efficient room turnover
  • Demonstrates competency of assigned functions and application of basic and current knowledge by:
  • Anticipating needs of the surgeon
  • Identifying breaks in the aseptic technique and reporting them
  • Displaying dexterity in the use of surgical instruments throughout procedures
  • Knowing the use of all needed equipment and supplies
  • Maintaining a neat and orderly field for procedures
  • Differentiating between clean, contaminated and sterile areas
  • Participating in counting according to policy
  • Participating in all aspects of Central Sterile including decontamination, wrapping, sterilization, and biological monitoring
  • Attends and participates in hospital/departmental meetings as required

Qualifications:
  • Education

Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

Successful completion of Surgical Tech Program
  • Work Experience

Required: Clinical experience in a health care setting

Preferred: Previous experience as a Surgical Technician
  • Licensure/Certifications/Registrations

Required: NH Med Tech Registry

Preferred: Certification as a Surgical Technician.
  • Other Skills/Knowledge

Required: Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient and staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources. Computer literacy. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to give and accept feedback in a constructive manner.
