Overview

Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Our Oncology Data Services Department consists of Cancer Registrars with various educational backgrounds ranging from Associate Degrees in healthcare related fields to Bachelor Degrees in Chemistry as well as Master Degrees in Public Health. ¿¿All Cancer Registrars are required to sit for the certification exam administered by the National Cancer Registrar Association and attain their CTR credentials. ¿¿It is the role of the Oncology Data Services Department to review all patients that are treated and/or diagnosed with a malignancy at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Siteman Cancer Center to determine their eligibility for inclusion into the Cancer Registry database as well as their reportability to the Missouri Cancer Registry. ¿¿Approximately 6000 new cases are abstracted into the database annually by 16 CTRs.

Role Purpose

Performs a variety of functions related to the collection and analysis of oncology data to develop and maintain a comprehensive cancer database. Assists in other activities of the cancer center program to maintain approval by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

Responsibilities

Maintains the cancer registry program and database.Identifies patients who meet criteria for inclusion into the oncology database.Completes patient care evaluation studies and other assigned projects.Participates on assigned committees as requested.Publishes requested reports as required.
