Donations Assistant Manager

The Donations Assistant Manager works alongside the retail store manager to provide guidance to donation attendants and an exceptional customer service experience at the donation door. You will also collaborate with retail store management to ensure the smooth operation of the store and support the production staff in the efficient flow of goods. This involves training staff in customer service, accepting donations, handling materials, pricing furniture as well as operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and the trash compactor.

Essential Functions:

Provide training and on the job coaching to donation attendants.

Ensure accurate donation counts through routine camera audits and effective training.

Responsible for ensuring all team members are providing exceptional guest service at the donation door by communicating with them and coaching them on a daily, weekly, and quarterly basis.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.

2. Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.

3. Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.

4. Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.

5. Maintain a clean and inviting donation area with up-to-date signage.

6. Oversee the daily scheduling of team members working at the donation door and material handling activities, including assigning tasks, breaks, and lunches.

7. Support production activity by ensuring the production area is safe and organized, team members have the materials and equipment required to do their work, and the workspace is clean and organized.

8. Assist and train others in sorting and grading donations for production staff.

9. Knowledgeable and trains staff at identifying items for ecommerce.

10. Organize the front and back warehouse to ensure the flow of goods to and from the store.

11. Maintain waste removal within the budget to keep the operation running smoothly.

12. Ensure all necessary tools and equipment are on hand to keep the flow of goods moving.

13. Conduct routine and accurate donation weight audits.

14. Other duties as assigned by retail store manager.

Reports to: Retail Store Manager

Supervises: Assists with supervising Donation Door Associates.

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

1. High school diploma or GED.

2. 2+ years of managerial experience in a high volume fast-paced business - retail or other customer service-oriented environment preferred.

3. Associate or bachelor's degree in retail, business management or related field is preferred.

4. Current valid driver's license without restrictions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Ability to provide support, motivation, direction, and training to new and existing staff.

2. Ability to coordinate multiple activities.

3. Good organizational skills required, must have strong communication skills, both orally and written.

4. Ability to make quick, accurate decisions.

5. Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.

Physical Requirements:

1. Work environment is sometimes hectic with occasional high stress and occasional short deadlines.

2. Routinely walks, stands, pushes, pulls, bends, kneels, reaches, twists and turns throughout the shift.

3. Medium lifting (20-50 pounds of force) with occasional heavy lifting (exerting 50-100 pounds of force).

4. Reliable transportation. Requires ability to travel to all sites and provide training.

5. Ability to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed.
