The bus safety assistant helps to provide safe transportation to ourr exceptional children population

Reports to Lead Driver/Transportation Coordinator

Qualifications:

* High school diploma or equivalent
* Obtain first aid/CPR certification.
* Permanent full time employment requires you obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with a P & S endorsement within 12 months

Essential Functions:

* Ensure that all activities conform to state school transportation guidelines.
* Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
* React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
* Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
* Comply with all Pitt County Schools Board of Education policies, rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

* Physical ability to evacuate the school bus in the case of an emergency.
* Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
* Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
* Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.
* Requires climbing and balancing.
* Must be able to provide care for student personal care needs (runny nose, drooling mouth)
* Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
* Extensive bus travel required.
* Must be able to work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments.
* Must be able to work in and around dust, fumes and odors.

General Responsibilities:

1. Immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior to the transportation supervisor.

2. Ensure that students wait, board and depart buses in a safe and orderly fashion.

3. Work with drivers and transportation supervisor in resolving problems with students.

4. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.

5. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.

6. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Designee which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
