TITLE: Behavior Technician

CLASSIFICATION: Classified

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma (Minimum)

REPORTS TO: Special Education Teacher, Behavior Specialist, Building Principal, TLEC Administration

JOB GOAL: The Behavior Technician will assist and instruct students who present with behavioral needs. The Behavior Technician will assist with the direct implementation of skill-acquisition and behavior reduction plans developed by the Behavior Specialist. Additionally, the Behavior Technician will assist with the implementation of positive behavior supports and Special Education programming.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in providing instruction to behaviorally challenged individuals or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Administers one-to-one intensive behavior interventions to students.
  • Actively participates in behavior intervention meetings and professional development
  • Collects data and records anecdotal student progress notes and maintains behavioral charting data.
  • Conducting preference assessments, including stimulus preference assessments, social skills assessments, and assisting with Functional Behavior Assessment procedures.
  • Monitors, observes, and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures, including progress regarding student performance and behavior.
  • Communicates with teachers regarding programs and materials to meet student needs.
  • Follows health and safety practices and regulations.
  • Assists students in developing self-help and self-advocacy skills as directed.
  • Support the implementation of necessary visual supports and modifications to the instructional environment to facilitate student engagement in all settings.
  • Assists in implementing specialized student plans (IEP, BIP), as needed.
  • Directs student group activities as assigned.
  • Provides assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegration back into the classroom.
  • Collaborate with Behavior Specialist in providing staff development support in classroom management and other behavioral strategies. This includes modeling, coaching and providing feedback to classroom staff.
  • The Behavior Technician will meet bi-weekly with the behavior specialist to review student progress and data collection.
  • Will maintain a service log of student support and/or notes for behavior specialists to be shared at bi-weekly supervision meetings.
  • Provide support to students, as an itinerant, at various school sites, across various grade levels, disabilities, and educational placements for both long and short term periods.
  • Follows cooperative and assigned district policies and procedures.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Prior special education paraprofessional or teaching experience and post-secondary education are factors in placement on the salary schedule.
