Job Title: Patient Care Technician Job Specialty: Acute Care Support Job Duration: Permanent Shift: Days, Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week Experience: Minimum of one year in acute care or medical/surgical clinical experience preferred License: Not specified Certifications: BLS required, CNA preferred Must-Have: Ability to provide assistance with nursing care under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel Job Description: - Accept assignments and work under the direction of the Charge RN or designee.- Immediately report changes in patient condition to the primary care RN.- Complete assignments and demonstrate the ability to adapt to changes in workload.- Accurately obtain, document, and report vital signs, rechecking as needed. Report abnormal findings to the primary RN or Charge RN.- Accurately measure and document patient intake and output as needed.- Perform capillary blood glucose testing using proper technique and equipment, document results, and report abnormal results to the RN.- Perform ECGs.- Apply non-invasive blood pressure devices, ECG electrodes, and pulse oximetry for monitoring patients.- Assist with patient transport and transfer within the department and hospital.- Respond to patient call lights and/or family requests, referring appropriately.- Ensure the safety of the patient population served by demonstrating age-appropriate skills when assisting with nursing care activities as directed by licensed nursing personnel.- Perform duties generally supportive of patients' activities of daily living, which do not require nursing assessment skills during their performance.- Perform unit-related tasks as assigned by the Nurse Director or designee.- Attend appropriate in-service and educational programs commensurate with job responsibilities.- Participate in unit/hospital projects that seek to improve patient care.- Maintain and support patients' rights to care, privacy, and respect.
